Panama: Panama Canal – Gatun Locks in Two Way Traffic
Not far from the new Agua Clar Locks – literally, parallel to them – are the original Gatun locks. Not many tourists come here these days, since the ships are smaller. But these are the original locks built in 1914, and it’s a more unique and historic experience. Here you can observe ships moving both directions (we got super lucky to see two ships together and at the same time) and also being pules by “mules” – electric locomotives guiding the ships through the narrow lock system.
