Panama: Penonome
Penonome is a provincial town in the middle of Panama along the Panamericana Highway. The town was founded in 1581 and even served as the capital of Panama for a short period in 1671 when Panama City was sacked and destroyed by the British privateers. The main historic attractions here are the whitewashed Cathedral of Penonome and the pretty square in front of it.
