Papua New Guinea: Hiking cloud forest around Ambua
Hiking the cloud forest around Ambua, you navigate pristine mountain jungle flora – super wet and green – with bizarre plants, mushrooms, lichens, ferns, and trees. The giant pandanus trees look out of this world on their massive stilt-like legs. So do the massive hairy fern trees. Ginger blooms, weird berries are everywhere, and some purple nuts fall on your head. Back to Avatar! Also, you go through 3 wooden bamboo bridges held together with lianas only (no nails or planks of any sort) – a bit of a hair raising experience given they weren’t built with a tall and heavier Westerner in mind.
