Papua New Guinea: Mudmen Tribe

Mudmen is one of the most unique tribes living in the Highlands. Supposedly, they were driven away from their lands in the past by a neighboring tribe, and they couldn’t fight it back. So they made huge white clay masks, coated themselves in white mud, grabbed some ferns, and then came out from a cemetery one foggy morning. Their adversaries thought those were the spirits coming to reclaim their lands and they ran away and never looked back. Today, the entire story gets reenacted for you. These clay masks are insanely heavy, putting one on I though my neck will break! It’s not very easy to walk in them not to mention dancing. Would be cool to wear one in Ibiza….
