Papua New Guinea: Port Moresby Nature Park
Seeing wildlife in the wild is not that simple in PNG – the birds are widely hunted for feathers for costume decorations. But at the Port Moresby Nature Park you are in luck – the vast 30 acre reserve on the outskirts of the city is home to over 350 native animals and birds, many of which are rarely seen, including birds of paradise, tree kangaroos, cassowaries, reptiles and parrots. Plus there are over 1500 native plant species. Some notable bird species include the Raggiana bird-of-paradise, the national bird of PNG and proudly featured on the national flag of the country, and also the Lowe’s Parotia, made famous by David Attenborough’s movies about their elaborate courtship display.
