Philippines/Bohol: Historic Churches of Bohol
Spanish Jesuits arrived in Bohol in late 16th century and built several spectacular churches with bell towers, defensive perimeter walls, and connecting bridges. Many other churches were later built in Bohol – in fact it has the highest church concentration of all the Philippines islands, almost all Catholic. An earthquake in 2013 significantly damaged the churches all over the island – 2 old ones were completely demolished while many others suffered serious damage and are now being restored slowly.
