Philippines/Palawan: Puerto Princesa Underground River
Puerto Princesa Underground River is one of the seven natural wonders of the world as chosen by people voting in 2011 (which is an utterly stupid way of choosing wonders of the world – how can people who have never seen anything besides their home country vote for this?). Additionally, Philippines president instructed 80 million of cellphone subscribers to vote, and multiple vote was allowed. Aside from this bs, it’s definitely an interesting and solid natural site to see – you travel in a boat for about 1.5km deep into the cave. Pictures don’t necessarily do this justice – there are thousand of swiftlets whizzing by and deeper into the cave it becomes all bats. Plenty of cave formations and large chamber rooms. The site is kept pristine with no artificial life – it’s gone to some unique animals that have adapted to lightless life.
