Poland: Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Auschwitz is a gruesome place – the Nazi concentration and extermination camp where nearly 1.1 million people were killed during WWII, 90% Jewish and the rest mostly Polish, Hungarian, and the Soviet prisoners of war. The camp is a series of buildings surrounded by barbed wire, including the massive gas chambers, galleys, the shooting areas and so on. Several buildings house the museums that show and describe what went on here in great detail. Everyone must see this place once in their lifetime to see what happened here so it never happens again. “What start with simple violation of basic human rights, when taken to extreme, turns into genocide.” This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the online booking system is usually reserved for days in advance.
