Poland: Wieliczka Salt Mine
Another insane place in Poland – the world’s largest, deepest, oldest salt mine – Wieliczka Salt Mine. The mine goes to the depth of 327m (1073ft) and is over 287km (178mi) long. The table salt has been produced here continuously since the 13th century until 2007. You descend the stairs all the way to the bottom, which feels insanely long a deep, through dark corridors cut out in salt. Several massive underground halls are decorated with salt statues, figures, and biblical scenes. It’s a bizarre and surreal experience all around and definitely a bucket list destination, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
