Portugal: Braga
Braga is another UNESCO-listed historic town in northern Portugal with a beautiful old town core and many spectacular churches and a magnificent cathedral. In fact, Braga is often referred to as the religious capital of Portugal – in teh 12th century it was the seat of the Portugal’s archbishops. Every Easter, Braga becomes the site of a massive Semana Santa celebrations, some of the most elaborate on the European continent. Besides the cathedral, Braga has several Boroque palaces and mansions making it also the Baroque capital of Portugal – Antigo Paco Episcopal (Archbishop’s Palace), Capela Sao Frutuoso, Municipal Palace, Republic Square, and much more.
