Portugal: Porto – Around the City
Porto is a beautiful town and a UNESCO World Heritage site for hundreds of historic buildings and churches that are jammed together over the hills around the Douro river tighter then sardines in a can. The Ribeira district right above the river is all about super narrow streets with colorful townhouses that form a maze on the way up to the UpperTtown where many of the churches and cathedrals are. It’s seemingly a never-endless list of attractions – Se Cathedral, Palácio da Bolsa, Igreja de São Francisco, Igreja do Carmo with beautiful blue tilework, and so on and so forth, down to pretty much every building being a baroque masterpiece. Special mention goes to the art nouveau Majestic Cafe for being one the best coffee houses in the world.
