Portugal: Sintra – Quinta de Regaleira

Quinta da Regaleira is another UNESCO palace just a short distance outside Sintra. The lavish palace was built in 1904-10 by Antonio Monteito, an ultra wealthy Portuguese businessman, collector, and scholar who had amassed a fortune in Brazil. Monteiro was deeply fascinated by the occult and classical literature so he built a place that look like it was medieval and full of gargoyles and gothic spires and carvings. The grounds are also full of mysterious structure (more on this in next post). The four story palace is very beautiful and ornate unsure and put as are multiple other chapels and structures in the manicured ground with multiple portals, grottoes and, fountains.
