Qatar: Doha’s Corniche
Doha Corniche is 8km long, curving around the Doha Bay. On one site, opposite the Souq Wakif is the Pearl Statue and downs of dhow ships offering cruises. On the other side, is a string of futuristic skyscrapers. Qatar has the highest pet capita income in the world, while before the oil was discovered in 1939, peeling was by far the major revenue stream in otherwise poor gulf emirate. Hence the Pearl Monument – a giant pearl – symbolically connecting the past and the present.
