Qatar: Fanar Qatar & 99 Domes Mosque
Two religious buildings in the heart of waterfront Doha deserve a special mention. One is Fanar Qatar Islamic Cultural Center, which is often considered an iconic Doha architectural gem with its spirally twisting minaret. Fanar Qatar was built in 2009 and is the tallest mosque in Qatar. And just opposite it is an equally unique and intriguing Domes Mosque, built in 1960 on the site of an old mosque. Here, the original mosque architecture typical of Qatar – flat structure with many domes and a large central courtyard. There are actually 99 domes!
