Republic of Congo: Brazzaville – Basilique Sainte-Anne-du-Congo
Perhaps the most impressive building in Brazzaville or the Basilique Sainte-Anne-du-Congo. The church was built over a 10 year period between 1949-59 in a striking neo-gothic style with a soaring spire (hard to fit in a photo actually). The structure was designed by the French architect Roger Erell, who was known for fusing Western architectural ideas with local building techniques. The copper doors are particularly impressive. And when you arrive here around 5pm, in time for the mass. You get to see huge crowds of ultra-colorful worshipers.
