Romania: Bogdana Monastery
Bogdana Monastery in the small town of Radauti near the Ukrainian border with Romania is the last of the monasteries we saw. This is wasn’t included in the UNESCO list, but it is actually the oldest of the painted churches, built in 1360 by King Bogdan I. The church actually became the necropolis for the Moldavian kings – from Bogdan I and on – there are 10 graves here, including Stefan The Great. The paintings on the walls are quite unique here – they have 3D aspect to them with added elevated elements of reliefs.
