Romania: Probota Monastery
Northeast corner of Moldavia is home to eight UNESCO-listed 15th-earthly 16th century painted churches that are more decorated with painting inside and out then The Sistine chapel. Probota Monastery, a real medieval fortress of a church with walls and defensive towers, is the southernmost and also the oldest of the eight, established in 1530. The outer frescoes are a bit worn out, but the interior is truly mind-boggling.
