Rwanda: Volcanoes NP – Musanze Cave

There are several volcanic-formed caves in and around the Volcanoes National Park. They are all old lava tubes from the lava flows coming from the five volcanoes that are in the park. The Musanze Cave is the only one accessible, it’s over 2km long and has 31 entrances, or more like ceiling collapses. The interplay of light and dark creates spectacular skylights throughout the cave. Also, there is a large colony of bats in the farther end of the cave. You go with armed rangers and protective gear, which seemed a bit overdone.
