Saint Helena: Halftree Hollow & Jamestown Valley
The capital of Saint Helena – Jamesatown – sits in a narrow valley sandwiches between two vertical cliff walls rising above on both sides. A steep road leads to the top of one of these cliffs and to the tiny settlement of Halftree Hollow which was a spillover from overpopulated Jamestown below. The best views of Jamestown and the port and the sea are from here – a small Halftree Hollow fort and the Jacobs Ladder leading down – present a spectacular panorama of the valley. Sadly, the Jacob’s Ladder is closed for renovation. Red-tailed tropic birds soar right in front of your eyes, while the terrain still keeps climbing up to the High Knoll Fort above.
