Samoa: Ferry to Savai Island
Samoa has two large islands – Upolu (where the vast majority lives) and Savai. It takes an hour ferry ride across the rough straight between the islands to reach Savai. The island is the fifth largest in the entire Polynesia, behind the two islands of New Zealand, Hawaii, and Maui. It is also the largest shield volcano in the Pacific, having erupted last in 1911 with lava flows annihilating half the island.
