Saudi Arabia: Al Hada Mountains & Baboons
The road further inland from Mecca rises very steeply almost 6,000 feet in an endless series of grueling switchbacks (still a divided highway though). The road climbs up to Al Hada Mountain range just before the city of Taif. Several panoramic viewpoints offer a look back on a stunning and endless mountain scenery. But beware of hordes of baboons – hamadryas baboons to be exact – almost literally assaulting you once you stop and begging for food quite aggressively. Not sure if your covid vaccination would work on rabies.
