Scotland: Staffa
The absolute must-do adventure is to take the boat trip to the uninhabited island of Staffa. The island is almost entirely made up from columnar basalt and it’s most spectacular feature is the Fingal’s Cave. The slow cooling layer of lava crystallized into hexagonal basaltic columns that can be see everywhere and especially around the two giant sea caves. It’s an otherworldly experience hiking here. The columnar basalt almost looks man-made.
