Irkutsk Oblast: Olkhon Island – Cape Burkhan
Cape Burkhan is a promontory just outside the town of Kuzhir, the biggest town on the Olkhon island on the Baikal Lake. The cape is also know as Shamanka for many shamanistic ritual being performed here. The two rocks jutting out in front of the cape are known as Shaman Rocks and the entire coast north from the cape is stunning – cliffs plunging into the clear waters of the largest and deepest freshwater lake in the world – truly epic panoramic views. Burkhan means “God” in buryat.
