Slovakia: Dobsinska Ice Cave (Slovak Paradise NP)
Dobšinská Ice Cave is located further north from the main karst area, high in the mountains, in the heart of Slovak Paradise National Park. With permanent temperature at 0C/32F, there are 125,000 cubic meters of ice in the cave forming mountains, tunnels, and even ice stalactites and stalagmites and columns. It takes some huffing and puffing up steep switchbacks to get to the cave entrance where you enter the ice paradise. Unlike the world’s largest cave in Austria, this one is fully lit and you actually get to see more. The cave is located below its entrance hole, so in summer the heavier cold air stays inside, while in winter the warm air rushes out, keeping the temps roughly permanent . It’s another UNESCO World Heritage site listed cave.
