Snares Islands: Snares Crested Penguins
Snares Islands are home to the snares crested penguins that breed only here and nowhere else on the planet. As landing is prohibited in the islands, we cruised really close to shore in zodiacs with hundreds of not thousands of penguins just on shore, going into water, returning from ocean, or just swimming around the boats and inquisitively popping their colorful heads. There are around 25 thousand pairs of snares crested penguins and they usually fish and forage in the vicinity of Snares Islands. This was a species of penguins I haven’t seen before.
