Solomon Islands: Kolombangara – Wasp Moths

As if all the colorful spiders and insects and geckos weren’t enough j the Kolombangara highlands, the insane display we got near the coast was even more surreal – thousands of super colorful wasp moths and black butterflies congregating on freshly cut endemic bush twigs. The wasp moths are species from the Euchromia family, and they are true moths and not even related to wasps in any way, it’s just an extreme case of mimicry for protection from predators – the moth cannot sting but its appearance clearly screams that it can!
