Solomon Islands: Nendo Island

Nendo is an island is the far southeastern part of the Solomon Islands archipelago, remote and rarely visited, in the Temotu province. It’s part of the Santa Cruz Island’s archipelago, in many ways different culturally from the rest of the Solomons. Right upon landing we were greeted by women in traditional palm-leaf outfits grilling fish on hot stones with a palm flower – an interesting gastronomic experience. Exploring the village beyond was an opportunity to see and meet the locals, see houses in the jungle, and most important see the local traditional money – made from dove feathers – an absolutely unique monetary system and only existing here on the remote Nendo.
