Somaliland: Camel Market in Hargeisa
Camel is the main domestic animal is Somaliland (the other being the goat). It’s also often a way of transportation and a meal. Hargiesa boasts one of the largest and most unique camel markets in the Horn of Africa (if not the whole world). Hundreds of animals are for sale here with men mostly trading camels and women congregating around camels. Everybody chewing the narcotic khat to help with trading decisions. It’s dusty, hectic, noisy, and a tourist with a camera was most definitely an unseen novelty.
