South Africa/KZN: Drakensberg NP – Sunset
If you can time it right, you can witness an absolutely surreal sunset over the sharp peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains. It truly is one of the most breathtaking sights in South Africa, offering a palette of vibrant colors and silhouettes. The Drakensberg Mountains, also known as uKhahlamba (the “Barrier of Spears”), is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the sun sets, the peaks and cliffs are bathed in golden, orange, and pink hues, creating a contrast against the darkening sky. The vast valleys, rolling hills, and distant horizons make the sunset feel even more expansive, as do the small round houses of the local villages. Cathedral Peak is perhaps the most dramatic spot to witness at sunset, packed with jagged silhouette and panoramic views.
