South Africa/NC: Augrabies Falls NP – Augrabies Falls

Augrabies Falls, located within the Augrabies Falls National Park, is one of South Africa’s most spectacular natural attractions isln the Northern Cape Province. The falls are formed by the Orange River, which plunges 56 m (183 ft) into a deep granite gorge, creating a thunderous road – hence the name, coming from the local Khoisan word “Aukoerebis” – “place of great noise.” In the summer months – November through March – the water level is a low, but the views of the canyon walls are better. And in some green areas on the way to waterfall, you can spot the rock hyraxes!
