South Africa/NC: Uppington – Red Ox Restaurant

 And of course just tasting wines is not enough, as you gotta pair them up and indulge in some Local culinary specialties. Red Ox Restaurant in Uppington is just the place for it – an upscale steakhouse serving aged beef and also various local North Cape and Kalahari meat specialties, with panoramic views of the Orange River and a selection of locally produced Orange River wines. We tried a generous portion of bone marrow, succulent ox tail, and the local specialty of skilpadjes – minced lamb meat wrapped in a layer of liver and grilled over an open flame, the name “skilpadjies” meaning “little tortoises” in Afrikaans, referencing the shape of the dish. Oh and a bottle of Orange River Can Sauvignon!
