South Georgia: Whales & Dolphins
As we sailed away from South Georgia, we traversed some of the most productive waters in the subantarctic region – rich with krill and plankton and this attracting lots of larger marine life, like whales and dolphins. A total of over a 100 whales in a span of less then a day, near and far, the spouts exploding all around the ship. Several different species – lots of fin whales, a couple blue whales, sei whales, humpbacks, and a few minke whales – passing by. Even some rare beaked whales – long-finned pilot whale and southern bottlenose whale! And several pods of hourglass dolphins.
