South Korea: Beomeosa Temple
Beomeosa Temple Is another important historic temple, located on the slopes of Geumjeongsun mountain north from Busan. It is one of Korea’s most famous and visited temples and often called “great headquarters temple of Korean Buddhism”. The temple complex dates back to 678 AD. The name “Beomeosa” translates to “Heavenly Fish Temple,” believed to originate from a legend involving the appearance of a golden fish and a heavenly robe. The temple complex features an array of intricately designed halls, pavilions, and pagodas, that blend with the natural surroundings of forested mountains. The main hall, Daeungjeon, is a focal point for worship and houses a large statue of the Buddha.
