South Korea: Haeinsa Temple
Haeinsa Temple and the heart of the beautiful Gayasan National Park in the central mountainous part of South Korea os the head temple of the Jogye Order of the Korean Seon Buddhism, this super sacred and important. It houses Tripitaka Koreana, the entirety of Buddhist scriptures carved and painted into 81,350 wooden blocks, all dating back to 1398. It’s in a beautiful setting surrounded with forest and mountains and offering spectacular panoramic views. The Tripitaka Koreana, is kept with a sophisticated preservation method that involves a unique blend of natural materials, including clay, pine resin, and powdered charcoal, that has shielded the scriptures from decay of time. The architectural marvels within the complex, include the Main Hall (Daejeokkwangjeon) and the Janggyeong Panjeon where the scriptures are kept.
