South Korea: Seoul – Deoksugung Palace
Deoksugung Palace is located right in the heart of busy Seoul center, all surrounded with skyscrapers and office glass towers. The palace was the official residence of the Korean royal family until 1910 annexation by Japan. The complex has several traditional Korean architecture wooden halls and pavilions, many looking very much alike, surrounded by park grounds and forested pathways. The western side has more of European style stone structures designed by a British architect. Daehanmun Gate is the main gate of the palace, and changing of the guard in the traditional outfits is a popular ceremony to watch.
