South Korea: Seoul – Gyeongbokgung Palace at Night
Gyeongbokgung Palace is even older then the Changgyeong Palace nearby and was the royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. In fact, it was the largest royal palace in Korea, with over 500 buildings and 7700 rooms. Once again, the Japanese did a severe job of total destruction in WWII, but the palace was almost entirely restored once again. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While it looks amazing at daytime, on certain nights it is open for the evening visits, when the buildings are all illuminated. The problem – there are only 200 tickets available for sale and it can be booked online well in advance. However, should you come dressed in Korean national royalty costumes (called hanbok) – and the access is free! Bingo! We quickly rented Korean royal outfits – princess-Natali and prince-Rus – and went on to enjoy a spectacular costumed party!
