South Sudan: Mundari Tribe – Cow Dusting
After cows return to the Mundari camp, they are all tied up to little sticks. The big piles of cow dung are then lit up and the resulting ashes are used on big prized bulls to powder them and protect from biting insects (helps people as well). The big-horned bulls get a real deep-tissues ash massage. The peach colored dung ash looks and fills like fine talcum powder. The ash actually works as antiseptic and sunscreen and people cover themselves with ash as well.
