Spain/Andalusia: Italica Roman Ruins
Italica is one of the most important Roman ruins on Spain. It was a major city in the Roman Empire and home to nobility, in fact three future emperors – Trajan, Hadrian, and Theodoius – were born here. Although the city is not best preserved compared to other places around the world, the sheer scale and structure of it is quite impressive. The Roman Amphitheater here could fit 25,000 people, third largest in the entire Roman Empire. Many of the houses have very well preserved mosaic floors, especially the famous House of Birds.
