Spain/Castille & Leon: Avila – Avila Cathedral

Catedral del Salvador de Avila aka Avila Cathedral is considered to be the first gothic cathedral in Spain. The construction began in 1091 AD on a site of a Moorish mosque and the cathedral was built in Romanesque styles it was actually incorporated into the city walls. But the time the construction was finished, the style became gothic. The interior is impressive with a lot of white and red granite. Everything inside is spectacular – the nave, the altar, all the chapels, doorway, and so on and so forth.
