Spain/Castille & Leon: Burgos – Museum of Human Evolution
The Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos is mostly dedicated to the archaeological findings from the Atapuerca cave located just a few km outside of the city. The Atapuerca sites contain a continuous record of human presence from approximately 1.2 million years ago to the present, with evidence of multiple hominid species, including Homo antecessor (from 850,000 years ago), Homo heidelbergensis (from 400,000 years ago), and Homo sapiens (Neanderthals and modern humans). It’s one of the largest collections of hominid fossils globall, including many skills and pelvic bones. The museum goes beyond just displaying the archaeological findings, it also have many display about human evolution and related research.
