Spain/Castilla La Mancha: Belmonte Castle
Castillo de Belmonte is one of the largest and best preserved castles in Spain – walls, moats, bridge, and round towers – make it impenetrable. It dates back to the 15th century, with some reinforcements over the years. It’s fully open for tourism and has two full floors full of exhibits, night’s armor, and painting and other decorations. The best part is climbing to the top of the wall and then further up any and all of the 6 towers. The views back onto the castle are awesome, and even better are the views onto the Castilla La March countryside – just in case you need some more windmills!
