Spain/Asturias: Oviedo – Early Pre-Romanesque Churches
Right above the town of Oviedo, on a hill called Monte de Naranco, stand two churches that date back to the 9th century – Iglesia de Santa Maria del Naranco and Iglesia de San Miguel de Lillo. Early pre-Romanesque structures, they are relatively small and simple but bear thousand year old carvings be inscriptions on their walls. And the panorama of Oviedo below is superb. Both churches are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
