Spain/Castille & Leon: Segovia – Alcazar de Segovia
The spectacular Alcazar de Segovia castle, perched in high cliffs on the edge of the town, dates back to the 12th century. The stunning fortress was the royal residence of the King Alfonso X in the 13th century. Phillip II and Anne of Austria got married here. The most impressive is the main entrance – Torre de Juan II – 14th-century tower ringed by 10 semicircular turrets. Today, it’s a museum with several ultra lavishly decorated royal rooms (not to be missed is the Throne Room) and also the military museum with tons of knight gear and outfits guns and canons and much more. It’s a UNESCO world Heritage site and quite deservedly so.
