Spain/Castille & Leon: Segovia – Segovia Cathedral
The Segovia Cathedral aka Cathedral of Santa María is really impressive – built between 1525 and 1577, it is a massive Gothic structure in the heart of the city and on the highest point, dominating the skyline. Known as the “Lady of Cathedrals” for its elegance and size, it was the last major Gothic cathedral constructed in Spain. The cathedral stands on the Plaza Mayor in, dominating Segovia’s skyline with an 88m-high bell tower. The facade features intricate stonework, while the interior has 23 chapels, a stunning main altarpiece and stained-glass windows from the 16th century, and an insane collection of religious art. It’s very grand from inside and the size of the columns and the dome really dwarf you.
