Sri Lanka: Gangatamaya Buddhist Temple
Gangatamaya Buddhist Temple is a bizarre experience – it’s not just a temple, but a cultural museum, kitschy collection of trinkets and artifacts, and a live show of sorts – all jammed into one place. Architecturally, it’s a mishmash of Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, and China. Its multiple halls are stuffed with various relics and arcane collections – elephant tusks, old cameras and watches, gemstones, various rocks, decorations, Buddha statues, and so on. Even old Rolls Royce! This seriously reminded me of what my apartment will soon turn into if I keep bringing souvenirs and related crap from every country I visit (except for Rolls Royce).
