Sri Lanka: Jaffna – Exploring the City

Jaffna is the capital of northern Sri Lanka. For many years it was not possible to visit as a brutal civil war raged between the local Tamil Hindu minority and the Sinhalese Buddhist majority. Jaffna was the key battleground and the stronghold of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), and was bombed and seriously destroyed and damaged. It’s recovering now and live seems normal. Major attractions include Jaffna Fort, Jaffna Public Library, Clock Tower, Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil Temple, Jaffna Market, waterfront, and much more. Absolute must do is the rooftop bar at the Jetwing Hotel for panoramic views of the entire city.
