The Jaffna Market, located in the heart of Jaffna, is a hectic and happening place renowned for its fresh produce, including Jaffna’s famous mangoes, grapes, bananas, jackfruits, as well as vegetables like capsicums, brinjals, and onions. Jaffna is renowned for its chilies, particularly its dried red chilies, which are a staple in Sri Lankan cuisine and famous far beyond the country. Also – Jaffna curry powder—a blend of roasted red chili, fennel, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and fenugreek – is another famous spice you can find at the market. Finally, there is a whole street full of dry fish.
