Sri Lanka: Kalpitiya Dutch Fort
Moving on to the Kalpitya Peninsula. As it holds a strategic position in the east coast and was used by Portuguese first and Dutch later and the main port to transport cinnamon out of Ceylon, the area was heavily fortified. A square fort with four towers was built by the Dutch in 1667. The fort is not open to public as it is occupied by the army. Nevertheless, I did get a primary tour albeit photography was seriously limited.
