St Kitts: Basseterre
Bassetere is the capital and the largest city in St Kitts & Nevis. It’s one of the larger port cities in the Leeward Islands. Basseterre was founded by the French in 1621. The town has had a rather turbulent history – wars during the colonial times, earthquakes wrecked it, fires burnt it, and hurricanes smashed it – all multiple times. Nevertheless – it’s one of the prettiest towns in the Caribbean – it has beautiful squares with fountains, a spectacular cathedral, and a castle-like Anglican Church. Plus loads of old buildings, Caribbean and French and British architecture fused together, and colored brightly. And the town is very clean!
