St Lucia: Soufriere
The town of Soufriere sits just at the bottom of the twin Piton mountains, in a narrow picturesque valley. The town is just a few grid street, a waterfront and pretty church. Soufriere has been hit by major hurricanes five times in its 250 or so year history, burned down by two fires, and rocked by two earthquakes – and every time most of the town was rebuilt anew. The town is really close to the dormant caldera of the Qaalibou volcano, so perhaps there are more natural disasters to come. Hopefully not, since the town is very pretty and the views are stunning all around.
